The Case for $320.000 Kindergarten Teachers

Interesting NYT article I thought I'd pass along.

  1. Yes, paying teachers $320,000 per year is not out of the question in my opinion. It is a lot of money per year that should go to the hard working and most effective teachers in this nation. What needs to happen is that we need a process of identifying the good and bad teachers (K-12, public school only obviously because this will be government funded). How do we have this process? We need roving ambassadors, where outside and independent, third-party groups of two randomly sit-in on classes, talk to the students, and document the good and the bad. This needs to happen randomly, yet frequently enough to gauge the true situation. From there, we either fire or place the bad teachers on probation, hire new great teachers, and retain the already great teachers that we have. From there, we incentivize the teaching system, double or triple the pay, and work to bring in the best possible teachers. As the article stated, education is vital for children. We need to step-up the process in which we attract and retain good teachers. Good teachers are out there; they just need to be brought into the system.
